In 1960, Barrhaven started to take shape as new suburb within Nepean (closest community to downtown Ottawa on those days). Original residents recognize this community the old and new Barrhaven with the new neighborhoods built in the past 10 years.

It is strategically located in the middle of economic sites Ottawa Downtown ( Government jobs) and Kanata ( Information and Technology Industry) and Nepean ( established site for commercial and Industrial)

This community is surrounded by small communities such as Stittsville, Munster, Richmond, Goulbourn Twp, Manotick, Kars, Rideau Twp & Area, Greely, Metcalfe, Osgoode, Vernon and others.
Economic:
In the past years, Barrhaven has grown rapidly with new neighborhoods and commercial sites and its growth is expected to continue in the coming years.

Education:
Barrhaven counts with several schools in English and French ( public and catholic) kinder garden, elementary, junior and high schools, also plenty daycares. Check schools below.

Other Education Institutions distance from Barrhaven:
Algonquin college is 10 -15 minutes distance and the University of Ottawa (25 min downtown) and Carleton University (20 min).

Shopping and Restaurants:
Exist several shopping stores where you can find anything you are looking for, these are: Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire, Lob laws, Food Basics, Stapples, Independent, Sobyes, Farm Boy, Shoppers Drug Mart, Home Depot, Winners, Fabriland, Sport Check and many more stores.
There are several local restaurants with different types of food such as Italian, Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Lebanese, Canadian, etc. Popular chained restaurants: Wendy’s, MacDonalds, Kelsey’s. Also coffee shops such as: Tim Hortons, Start Bucks, Second Cup, Timoty, etc.

Parks and Recreation Centers:
With the new development, most of the neighborhoods offers parks, playgrounds and trails to walk or bike.
The Walter Baker Sports Centre offers: hockey rink, swimming pools for children and adults with water sides, Weight Room/Cardio Rooms and a library. Five minutes from Barrhaven, there is another Sports Center named: Nepean Sportsplex.

Anytime: dining, movies, shopping, hiking, running or taking any special hobbie-courses in The Walter Baker Sport Center offers several courses and activities for the entire family to enjoy and have fun during the whole year, including public swimming and skating.

Spring time: You can to pick up fresh strawberries, berries and other vegetables and fruits nearby, you will see the signs of “U Pick Up”.

Summer: At the skirts of Barrhaven you will find the Rideau River where you can enjoy hiking, running, walking, fishing ( licensed required), pick nick, boating, paddling and more.

Winter: Ice Skating, ice tobogganing, ice fishing, etc.

Barrhaven is family oriented suburb located approximately 13 miles in the southwest corner of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. This suburb (as others) was joined as part of the city of Ottawa.Now, it is a popular community for many families who enjoy the benefits of the city but want to live in a quiet neighborhood.

The population is approximately 60,000 and pronominally English speaking. I will recommend this community for families for the following reasons: Affordable homes and new and resale homes approximately 30-40% cheaper of similar homes located in downtown.
